the works of Meghan Urbackat Dwell on Design, Handful of Salt's 100 percent California The works of Meghan Urback at this weekend's Dwell on Design were a personal highlight. Sublime, textural reliefs, exuding calm in a convention center full of frenetic energy. Absolutely captivating works of felt. These works were part of Regina Connell's Handful of Salt booth that promoted California designers (also featuring new works by Sara Paloma) - David John"The story behind my felt designs starts with a berry farm in the Puyallup valley in Washington state. My grandfather started life as a Cuthbert raspberry farmer. Though he eventually became a succesful car salesman and his family farm was sold, he always tended a large fruit and vegetable garden. When he retired, several rows of the same Cuthbert berry vines fruited every summer in his garden. I grew up picking these berries alongside him as he listened to baseball games on his ancient radio. He always had plenty of berry tills and other goodies lying around in his shed. Many years later, these berries, the cardboard berry baskets, and homemade raspberry jam are still important to me. I began working with textiles while pursuing college and graduate degrees in art, and struck upon the idea for knitted raspberries made from handspun wool. Of course they were displayed in my grandfather's berry baskets." - Meghan Urback"I work with wool felt to create texture and warmth in objects for the home and office. I am committed to using natural materials and am passionate about pairing contemporary design with finely honed craft skills. I both create my own hand-processed felt and use industrially-produced varieties. All of my felt work is 100% wool and it is mostly un-dyed, as I prefer to showcase the natural textures and colors of various types of wool."----------------- the works of Meghan Urback at Dwell on Design, Handful of Salt's 100 percent California The works of Meghan Urback at this weekend... DISC Interiors @ Dwell on Design: June 21-23 "We're working with DISC Interiors because, as a firm, they share our values and aesthetic.” says Steve Glenn, CEO of LivingHomes. “They have an incredible record of creating spaces that reflect the kind of warm, modern, conscious design that we hope defines our LivingHomes." We've been busy with a few new projects over the last months. One particular project we are thrilled to be part of is for LivingHomes at this week's Dwell in Design at the Los Angeles Convention Center. DISC Interiors designed the interiors for this prefab home, selecting the finishes to the furnishings, and art. Hope to see you there. - David John"Known for its warm modern style and layered textural rooms, DISC Interiors has selected a rich palette of reclaimed wood, dark cabinetry finishes for the kitchen, recycled Caesarstone for countertops, and a grey toned cork floor for the showcase project. Throughout the project, there will be signature pieces by local and West Coast-based designers and ateliers. The firm is furnishing the home with bespoke furniture from Lawson Fenning, and selections from Cisco Home. They have selected graphic wallpaper from boutique wallpaper firm Cavern, along with a hand tufted wool rug from the Anni Albers collection from Christopher Farr. They are working directly with Rejuvenation, a Portland-based lighting company, with a showroom at the Helms Bakery, on the interior and exterior lighting fixtures. Art throughout the home will be curated by Culver City based gallery, Taylor De Cordoba, and will include works by Hadley Holiday and Danielle Nelson Mourning.DISC Interiors is currently working on residential and commercial projects everywhere from Pacific Palisades and Rustic Canyon to the Russian River in Northern California and Marina Del Rey. The chance to design this year’s LivingHomes showcase prefab at Dwell on Design is a tremendous honor for the firm. "We're thrilled to have been asked to design for LivingHomes,” says David John. “We've always been intrigued with architecture that pushes the bounds of form and function, not to mention aesthetic beauty.”-------------- DISC Interiors @ Dwell on Design: June 21-23 "We're working with DISC Interiors because, as a firm, they share our values and ae...
