"The Designers Are In: LA Style, Artisan Edition"
 DISC Interiors featured on Remodelista

Last weekend, Remodelista asked DISC Interiors to be a part of "The Designer Is In" series where they feature a designer/architect for the weekend, allowing readers to write in questions.  We had a blast answering emails all weekend, and we were blown away at the positivity towards this project!  We are still receiving emails, and are grateful to Remodelista for asking us to be part of their site. - David John

"The designers retained the ceiling pendant, which was original to the house, and mixed in a midcentury dining set by Guillerme and Chambron for Votre Maison along with a custom leather wall mirror by LA lighting designer and artist Jason Koharik." - Remodelista

"We had worked with Todosomething on a previous DISC project, and we were eager to ask them to work with us on Glenn's home. Todosomething, (Dakota Witzenburg and Chad Petersen) build custom furniture and cabinetry here in Los Angeles. We designed the cabinetry to have a sense of timelessness about them, inspired by the lines of traditional English cabinetry. The island was designed with a 3" oak butcher block that can be used everyday, and will only get more beautiful over the years as the wood gains more textures and depth. Todosomething created an oak "jewel-box" interior for the cabinets with the glass doors, adding another material and texture. We decided early on with Glenn that the cabinetry would extend to the ceiling, giving a smaller kitchen a sense of vertical expanse, making it feel larger than it actually is, and giving extra storage." - David John

"The master bathroom turned out better than we could have imagined. On our first visit to Glenn's home, he showed us an area underneath the kitchen with dirt flooring that housed some of the plumbing for the home, which he desired to use for the future master bathroom. He had already contacted an architect as to how to build out this space, but he wanted a vision for the room. For the vanity, we looked to the lines and materials of Belgian cabinetry design. The custom vanity was made to be a piece of furniture, as to work with the hand-crafted feel of the home and the furnishings. It was constructed from white oak, the footing and towel rack are unlaquered brass. The master bathroom really has this feeling of an Italian Guest suite, with its custom oak cabinetry, brass and marble enclosed steam shower, and "Henry" plumbing fixtures from Waterworks."

"Our inspiration for the painted interior of the cabinet was from a couple of interior photos that we had all seen and loved, by designers Steven Volpe in San Francisco, and Steven Gambrel. Adding a deeper color worked to bring a sense of richness to the room, which is actually quite small. The shelves become a modernist work of art in themselves, creating space for Glenn's collection of design books, sculptures, and ceramic collection. In front of the built-in is a vintage chair from Mira Nakashima, George Nakshima's daughter."
